"Kardamili", a name going back to ancient Greek history through the writings of Herodotus, Pausanias and Stravonas, today harmoniously blends past and present.
One of the most picturesque seaside villages in Messinian Mani, Kardamili has roots in history that go back at least 3.200 years, a rich past that is visible, among others, in the Byzantine “old Kardamili” settlement, in a number of monasteries, arched bridges and paved mountain paths in the wider Kardamili area.
For nature lovers with…strong feet, Vyros, one of the largest and most impressive gorges in Greece, around 20 km on average, goes deep into the heart of Taygetos mountain. You can walk to the springs of Vyros, at a distance of 2,5 hours . On the way, there are several old windmills, while the various marked trails pass picturesque villages with Byzantine churches and beautiful stone buildings.
A more recent spot of interest due to its presence in the film “Before Midnight”, is Patrick Leigh Fermor’s villa over Kalamitsi beach, just outside Kardamili.
Kardamili’s position in Mani makes it an ideal base for the exploration of other villages in the area – Stoupa, Areopolis, Limeni, Gerolimenas and many others.
If on the other hand you feel tired after a day at the beautiful Kardamili beaches, the Kripia houses with every modern comfort will put your…feet and mind at rest. Needless to say that you can marvel at the sea from every stone house at Kripia, since they all have their private little balcony.
For your other needs, Kardamili has a pharmacy, doctor services, (a Health Center is located at a small distance), bank, Post Office, Super Markets and of course, a variety of good restaurants..
